The article discusses some features and characteristics of causative meaning formation and representation in Russian and English, which are basically metonymic in their character. The causative situation has a unique indivisible designation neither in Russian nor in English, which proves the basic nature of metonymy as a major mechanism of meaning formation and nomination in the language. Through modeling of the causative situation structure in the English and Russian languages, the article demonstrates how the selection of individual components of causative situation and, accordingly, how the nomination of the whole situation by one of its elements are performed. Thus, in the causative situation different elements as its structural components as well as individual characteristics of the participantsare allocated.
